# The Blueprint Editor

> An overview of the Blueprint Editor — a single workspace where you read, build, run, and share the Blueprints in your project.

The Blueprint Editor is the main workspace in Leapter. Every project opens directly into the editor, and the editor shows the entire project at once: the type definitions, every Blueprint in the project with its inputs and outputs, and the dependencies between them.

The Blueprint Editor is a single page. There is no separate "diagram" page or "spec" page — you work in one place that combines a structured document view ([Specification view](/editor/specification-view)) with the interactive diagrams embedded inline. When you want to focus on a single Blueprint's diagram, you maximize it in place — see [Diagram view](/editor/diagram-view).

## Find your way around

| # | Area | What you do there | Details |
| :- | :- | :- | :- |
| **1** | **Top toolbar** | Run and debug your logic, undo and search, switch between Design, Playground, and Insights, release, and share | [Top toolbar](/editor/toolbars-and-panels#top-toolbar) |
| **2** | **Contents** | Jump through the project, see which Blueprints are public or private, and set input values for a quick run | [Contents sidebar](/editor/toolbars-and-panels#contents-sidebar) |
| **3** | **Document** | Read and edit the project as a structured document, with each Blueprint's diagrams embedded inline | [Specification View](/editor/specification-view) |
| **4** | **Right sidebar** | Work with tests, the Lab Agent, findings, comments, and the change history next to the document | [Right sidebar](/editor/toolbars-and-panels#right-sidebar) |
| **5** | **Stream pill** | See which stream and version you are looking at — **main** or a draft | [Change Workflow](/track-changes/change-workflow) |

Every button and menu is listed with its name and purpose in [Toolbars & Panels](/editor/toolbars-and-panels).

## Three ways to look at a project

The view switcher on the right of the top toolbar changes what the editor shows:

| Mode | What it is for |
| :- | :- |
| **Design** | Build, edit, run, and test your Blueprints. This is where you spend most of your time. |
| **[Playground](/editor/playground)** | Try a Blueprint through a small app the Lab Agent builds for you, next to its diagram. |
| **[Insights](/release-and-integrate/insights)** | See how your released project runs in production. |

## Getting around quickly

* **Find anything** — press **⌘K** (**Ctrl+K** on Windows) to search the whole project. See [Search](/editor/toolbars-and-panels#search).
* **Focus on one Blueprint** — double-click it in the Contents sidebar, or click its maximize icon, to fill the canvas with its [diagram](/editor/diagram-view). Click **Minimize** in the top toolbar to return to the document.
* **Ask the agent about an element** — select it and press **Ctrl+I** (**Cmd+I** on Mac) to drop it into the [Lab Agent](/editing/lab-agent#point-the-agent-at-a-node-with-ctrli) chat.
* **Run as you edit** — leave [Live mode](/test-and-validate/test-your-blueprint#live-mode) running, and the outputs update with every change.

More shortcuts are listed in [Keyboard shortcuts](/editor/toolbars-and-panels#keyboard-shortcuts).

## What to do next

* **[Toolbars & Panels](/editor/toolbars-and-panels)** — every button, menu, and shortcut in the editor
* **[Specification view](/editor/specification-view)** — navigate and edit the project as a document
* **[Diagram view](/editor/diagram-view)** — work inside a single Blueprint's diagram
* **[Lab Agent](/editing/lab-agent)** — build and edit your Blueprints by chatting with AI
