In a self-hosted n8n, the simpler way is the Leapter node (Call a release from n8n with the Leapter node). The Admin UI builds n8n workflows from the release an environment serves. Use this when an n8n workflow should run one of your blueprints. The workflow files contain no key: you add yours in n8n.

Before you start

  • The application is deployed and has an evaluation key (Deploy a release and call it, Create and revoke an evaluation key).
  • You can sign in to the Admin UI, and you hold content:read in the environment, for example as an auditor. Without it, the n8n card says “You need the content:read right”.
  • An n8n instance that can reach the runtime cluster. The steps were run with n8n 2.44.5; other versions may name the menu items differently.

Steps

1

Download the workflow

Open the Admin UI (the cluster address followed by /runtime-management/ui/) and click Sign in with Leapter. Choose the environment in the environment list at the bottom of the sidebar, click the application’s name on the Status page, and scroll to the n8n card. Under Blueprints, click HTTP workflow next to the blueprint. Your browser saves a file such as pizza-pricing-calculator-180269-playground-pizza_pricing-http.json.
The n8n card of pizza-pricing-calculator-180269. It says No key is in these files. Under MCP there is the MCP workflow button, and under Blueprints, Pizza Pricing has the buttons HTTP workflow and Code workflow. HTTP workflow has a green ring.

The n8n card offers one workflow for MCP and two for each blueprint.

2

Import it into n8n

In n8n, create a new workflow: click + at the top of the left sidebar, then New workflow. Open the workflow menu (… next to the workflow name), choose Import, then From file, and select the downloaded file. The workflow is renamed to “HTTP example - Pizza Pricing”. You should see four nodes: Form Trigger, Transform Data, Pizza Pricing and Form. The first two touch each other. The node Pizza Pricing sends a POST to the blueprint’s run address.
3

Add your key

Double-click the node Pizza Pricing and scroll down to Headers. Find the header with the name X-API-Key. Replace <YOUR_API_KEY> in its Value with your evaluation key. Close the node with × at its top right.
The n8n node Pizza Pricing, open on Parameters. Under Headers, the first header is Content-Type with application/json. The second header is X-API-Key, and its Value field with the text YOUR_API_KEY in angle brackets has a green ring.

The X-API-Key header of the HTTP Request node.

4

Run the workflow

Click Execute below the canvas. n8n opens the form Input Data in a new tab, with the note “This is a test version of your form”. Fill in the fields:Click Submit.

Result

The form shows Run complete and the blueprint’s outputs. The run is recorded on the cluster like any other call.
An n8n form page that says Run complete: totalPrice 20.9, basePrice 16, toppingsCost 3, crustUpcharge 0, subtotal 19, dayMultiplier 1.1, weeklyPrices 19, 15.2, 17.1, 19, 20.9, 21.85, 19.

The result of the run, shown by the workflow's last node.

The n8n card has two more workflows. Run a blueprint inside n8n describes the Code workflow, and Use your blueprints in an n8n AI agent describes the MCP workflow.

Troubleshooting

After Sign in with Leapter, you are in the Lab and not in the Admin UI, or the Lab says “This sign-in cannot go on.” and “authorization not found”. Open the Admin UI’s address again and click Sign in with Leapter once more. The Status page opens.
